Sermons
for Lent, Good Friday and Easter
Lenten Sermons: Lent
begins with the symbol of ashes, then challenges us to
rise above the ashes of our own destruction.
Lent challenges us to deep decision–making arising
out of the kind of inner–conflict Jesus experienced
in His forty days of trial in the wilderness.
Good Friday Sermons: On
Good Friday, Jesus is given to us stripped of all attachments
except one: His devotion to the
Father’s will and service. This is our assurance that
though we have nothing, in possessing Jesus we have everything.
God, in His own time, will bring the New Kingdom to fulfillment
and the evils of sin and suffering will be no more.
Easter Sermons: For
the New Testament Christians, Jesus’ Resurrection
was much more than a miracle. Their Lord, who had been crucified
and placed in a tomb, confronted them as Living Lord. But,
for the New Testament Community, the important thing was
that through the miracle they discovered who God is. They
came to know
God as a God of Resurrection Power – a God who transforms
darkness into light, sorrow into joy, death into New Life.
